Sydney’s best vegan eats: From doughnuts to pizza to lasagne and soft serve

Source: The Daily Telegraph

BEING a vegan is easier than ever before in the Harbour City, with an increasing number of eateries and stores serving up food favourites that have had animal-free makeovers — doughnuts and lasagne included.

IN September, this pizzeria, which creates authentic Neapolitan wood-fired pizza, took cheese off its menu. How authentic is that?

Apparently, very much so as the original Naples staple was the marinara, made of only tomato, garlic, oregano and oil. You won’t find any meat on the menu any more either.

Try the mushroom-based Funghi e Radicchio with dairy-free blue cheese. Yum.

Where: 379 King St, Newtown

Cost: Pizzas from $17

MEET Sydney’s first organic wholefoods and raw foods cafe — a bit of a mouthful, which is fitting as your mouth (and stomach) will most certainly be at capacity after a visit here.

A range of brekkie and lunch options are available, including an Avo & Mushroom Benedict and meat- and dairy-free lasagne.

Sweet tooths will love the Cocowhip — a probiotic soft serve made from coconut that comes in mint slice, salted caramel and Wagon Wheel flavours.

Where: 147 Enmore Rd, Enmore, and 132 Warners Ave, Bondi Beach

Cost: Meals from $13

MENUS at traditional milk bars don’t have many options for our vegan friends — but a “mylk” bar menu? Not a problem.

Located in the trendy enclave of North Bondi, the new Zeitgeist Mylk Bar offers a range of tasty treats, all created with house-made almond macadamia “mylk” so they’re free from eggs and dairy.

Indulge in classics like cinnamon doughnuts, apple pie and custard shakes.

Where: 43 Gould St, North Bondi

Cost: Baked goods start at $4
